Frederique Klooster

Frédérique has received several bursaries and scholarships for full time and pasrt time courses she undertook. Funds that have supported her are Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds (NL), Scholingsfonds voor de Kunsten (NL), Nederlands Fonds voor Podiumkunsten (NL), and for the Ardingly International Music School 2008 and 2009 she received a full bursary from a private sponsor. She is also supported by the Josephine Baker Trust. Frédérique has gained experience on stage in opera and operetta. She sang for the Dutch opera company Muziektheater Hollands Diep on several occasions: Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (role: Spirit, soprano in the ensemble), the chamber opera BINGEN, Hildegard von (role: Hildegard) - and she just finished performances for the world première of the contemporary Dutch opera De Waterman (role: Young Waterman, Jantje) by Hans Koolmees. With the operetta company Hoornse Operette Vereniging, she sang the role of Saffi in a production of Der Zigeunerbaron by J. Strauss. She was a member (1st soprano) of the vocal ensemble in the contemporary Dutch opera Alzheimer by Chiel Meijering and she performed as a soloist during Chamber Opera Festival Zwolle and Springdance Festival in Just for one day by Paul Oomen and Nora Heilmann, with the Dutch opera company Yo! Opera. Recently, she performed several staged scenes from Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea (role: Poppea) in Rosslyn Hill Chapel in London, directed by Richard Jackson. She was invited by Evelyn Tubb to join the ensemble Vox Animae, with whom she performed Ordo Virtutum by Hildegard of Bingen (role: Timor Dei, Patientia) at Lake District Festival in Kendal, Brighton Early Music Festival and at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. At the Royal Academy of Music, Frédérique appeared as Lucienne in the performance of a scene from Korngold’s opera Die Tote Stadt, and she has recently performed a scene from Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea (role: Poppea), and Massenet’s Cendrillon (role: La Fée), all of which were directed by John Ramster. Oratorio and other information Frédérique has appeared as a soloist in several oratorio performances, among which Vivaldi’s Gloria and Magnificat (performances at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, London and Guildford Cathedral, Guildford), Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium Biber’s Vesperae Longiores, Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit, Handel’s Dixit Dominus conducted by Stephen Cleobury, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang (performance at Bad Doberan, Germany), Haydn’s Nelson Mass (performances in the UK and Germany), and Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms, conducted by Robert Dean. Frédérique is a freelance member of the Dutch National Touring Opera, and she sang soprano in the choir at performances of Handel’s Messiah. She will perform Bach’s St. John Passion at the Spitalfields Festival this summer, conducted by Edward Higginbottom. Frédérique was chosen to perform as a soloist for the festival The Story of London. She sang works by Weelkes, Purcell and Gibbons. Frédérique has worked with many renowned directors, singers and instrumentalists, among who are Stephen Cleobury, Sir Colin Davis, Robert Dean, Steven Devine, Richard Egarr, Michael Fields, John Hancorn, Jurjen Hempel, Edward Higginbottom, Maarten Hillenius, Robert Hollingworth, Neil Jenkins, Reinbert de Leeuw, Huub Kerstens, Maarten Koningsberger, Hein Meens, Daniel Reuss, Anthony Rooley, Evelyn Tubb, David Selig, Stephen Varcoe and Carolyn Watkinson.
