Yvonne Howard - mezzo-soprano

Stafford born Yvonne was recently hailed by the international press as surely one of the finest singing actresses this country has produce,  as a result of her performances in the film of John Adams opera The Death of Klinghoffer and the title rôle in Beethovens Fidelio.

Yvonne studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and went on to make her debuts with both the Royal Opera Covent Garden and English National Opera in 1991. Since then she has enjoyed a varied and exciting career in concert and opera throughout the world, taking in concert halls and opera houses in Japan, Brazil, USA, the Middle East and Europe as well as the UK.

Her recent operatic rôles have included Dejinera in Hercules at Buxton Festival, Irene in Theodora in Strasbourg, Madam Larina in Eugene Onegin for both the Royal Opera and ENO Auntie in Peter Grimes for Opera North, Leeds and Leonore/Fidelio in Fidelio for the Royal Opera.

Concert work forms an important part of Yvonnes work with Elgars Dream of Gerontius, Verdis Requiem and song cycles of Strauss, Mahler and Berlioz being among her favourites

Yvonne has just completed a busy and successful season with rôles including Auntie in Peter Grimes, Hippolyta in A Midsummer Nights Dream, Gertrude in Romeo and Juliette and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, all for Opera North followed by Laura in La Gioconda for Opera Holland Park.

She will begin next season by singing the Angel in the Dream of Gerontius for the Two Moors Festival and go on to sing the title rôle in Norma with ETO, Sara in Roberto Devereux for Opera Holland Park and the Countess in Veronique for Buxton Festival.
